Here are some great suggestions on downsizing the meat that you eat!!! When I was younger, I was much better about diet, and used many of the suggestions listed below. When I dined out, i often had a salad and /or appetizer and beverage, rather than a main course. This was also in part because i was on a budget, and found it to be more cost-effective. Sometimes I would share a meal with a friend.
As I have gotten older, when I dine out with friends, they often are thrown for a loop when I do not order conventionally. So, to avoid that conversation, I order the entree, but separate it in half (mentally), and usually take half home. This cuts down on caloric intake, as well as provides me with another meal.
I also never eat fast food. It basically has little nutritional value. And yet another technique for keeping my weight down has been to take my own lunches to work, unless I had plans to go out with colleagues. A yogurt, hard-boiled egg, and V-8, make a great lunch, or a simple peanut butter and jelly (light on the jelly) on whole wheat bread offers a nutritious and tasty lunch. It also feeds the soul!!
The article linked here gives you more tips. I would love to hear your own techniques and/or issues on the Community forum!!
