Mind & Reading

I read voraciously. I read for pleasure; I read for motivation and understanding; I read for lots of reasons. Today I ordered several books from www.Amazon.com that will challenge my mind. I will provide reviews as I get through them. But the reviews other readers have given are already quite high. If the titles intrigue you, go for it:

  • The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich, Ferriss. I don’t believe there is a free lunch out there, but the title was intriguing, and even one useful tip will make the $12.00 purchase price worthwhile!
  • One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success, Alboher. I have heard that most people have several careers within one lifetime, yet we are made to feel as though something is wrong with us if/when we switch. I am doing research regarding statistics about career change. It must be fairly common to warrant such a book!!
  • Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What you Want, Joyner. Again, the $16.00 cover price will be well worth it if this helps simplify life!!
  • A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future, Pink. I am both right and left brain (meaning both creative and analytical). This has been both a blessing and a curse as it leads to some fairly continual struggles. . . This book will talk about the glory of the Creative, I assume. . . .:) Sounds interesting!!

I also read for pleasure when I can. In my book and on this site, I mention ‘change of scenery’ as a way to get creative, to cope with change, and to perhaps create a new mindset that will see situations and solutions more clearly. I think of a good novel as another form of ‘change of scenery.’ A good story can get you out of your own life and into another zone. It’s a great escape, if nothing else!
