Smell the Roses
Regardless of where you are in the process of life, it is important to know when to “stop and smell the roses” (yet another metaphor). It is so easy to get caught up in action that we forget our down-time, family time or time for inspiration or stimulation. It is often these “stop and enjoy” times that lead to renewed creativity or peace.

Seek and Appreciate the Magic
A few years ago, I stopped in the parking lot of a restaurant at Big Sur, California, to switch drivers. The restaurant patio overlooked the ocean, but we did not walk out to it. As we took our new positions in the car, a maintenance worker called to us: “Aren’t you going to look at the ocean? If you don’t, you will miss the magic!” Here was a man who swept patios for a living, yet knew so very much about life.
We never know who will teach us something, so it is best to stay open.

Don’t forget to share your resources, whether it be offering a shoulder to someone in need, or taking cookies to the volunteer firemen. Love one another.
But don’t be smug if your change is a positive one, such as wining the lottery!
