I used to garden. I loved gardening. Keri, who helps with this site, also gardens. Hopefully she will write about it in the Community–will you, Keri? Let’s all check to see if she does!!! LOL (laughing on-line, or laughing out loud!).
I loved gardening for many reasons. It gave me healthy food, for one. I knew what was part of my food, and did not worry about ecoli or pesticides or other ‘intruders.’ I diligently planted marigolds around my garden to keep out rabbits. Second, it was so rewarding to see my plants stick their little heads out of the soil, to watch them grow, and then to reap their harvest, however large or small. Given this era of weird money and a growing awareness of our environments, this couple’s decision struck me as innovative on a number of levels. It responds to the suggestion of “change of Scenery’ as a strategy for being creative or coping with change; it responds to the environmental concerns for sustainability; and it responds to the growing sense of wanting to reconnect with nature, with the Earth, with people, the sense of participating in the community of the world, the growing desire for nurturing spirit and soul rather than amassing more material possessions.
